Content > Kindle > iPhone = Profit

Disclaimer: Information only for USA readers only at this time… (unless you have access to a USA address and bank account or until Amazon allows international accounts)

Up until yesterday thinking about putting your eBook content on Kindle would have had you saying “boutique market” and “who actually has a Kindle anyway?”. With the Kindle Application now being released on iPhone you should be wetting yourself with excitement and burning your bandwidth uploading your e-book and other paid text content as Kindle material because the available eyeball numbers just EXPLODED. (500,000 kindles compared to a gazillion iPhone (yeah can’t find hard sales figures for iPhone at the time of writing)).

Content > Kindle

Your first stop is the Amazon Digital Text Platform As you can see, it does not look particularly “Amazony” but fear not, you are in the right place.

kindle1

Log in with your Amazon account. Yep the same one you do you shopping with etc. Don’t have an account? Then it’s time to sign up for one.

Now things look a little more like Amazon.

Once logged in click on the ADD NEW ITEM button and head to where the fun starts

kindle2

Fill in the details of your publication. Write a description that describes exactly what your publication is about and thing hard about “what problems will this solve” and mention them in the blurb.

An ISBN (International Standard Book Number) is not required to publish content with Digital Text Platform.

Then select your categories. Common sense move is to ensure you choose the most relevant category first, then add related categories. Make sure you click “confirm” to save.

Author is a no-brainer (that’s YOU!) and add any other authors as well.

If you have created this product for a specific market you have researched then you will already have a list of keywords to add. If you have not, then think about the main words your publication revolves around, what will people use as a search term to find this information.

Edition/Series Title/Series Volume are up to you as they are not required (but everyone loves a first edition yeah?)

Make sure your book display picture meets the Amazon requirements and upload

  • TIFF (.tif/.tiff) or JPEG (.jpeg/.jpg) format
  • Image pixel dimensions of at least 500 pixels on the longest side. A minimum of 1200 pixels on the longest side is preferred.

Select “Save Entry

Upload your book and make sure you preview your work to check it all is correct.

Name your price and you are ready to PUBLISH

Next make sure your market gets the Kindle iPhone Application and that you have links from your site to your Kindle publication from your blog or web pages.

You would be CRAZY not to be distributing your eBook content via Kindle/iPhone …. seriously… do it.

p.s. if you don’t have any digital content, and it doesn’t HAVE to be a true eBook, then why not?????

Oh, thank you, thank you thank you! What a clear and informative post! I found out about it from a video from Ed Dale (thank you as well, Ed!)

So glad to have found your blog. I’ll be back, after I go add my e-book to amazon and take your other advice.

    Really great job!

    Got here through a Tweet.

Excellent description. I did this with about 15 texts a while back.

New need: How do you get your blog syndicated via Kindle? It is a different process but I have not figured it out.
