My 2009 Goals Revisited (Lisa)
We’re over halfway through 2009, so how are you getting on with the goals you set yourself for the year?
As I mentioned in my post on my 2009 goals at the end of 2008, you should be reviewing your goals continuously and setting yourself smaller monthly and weekly goals and action plans (that way you won’t come to the end of the year and feel like you haven’t achieved anything if your main goals haven’t been reached).
How have I been doing with my goals?
You may remember I wrote:
In 2009:
- I have become and live debt-free
SWBN has 200 active members
I have taken control of my health and fitness, including losing 70lbs
I have created a lifestyle which enables me to be more nomadic and travel around the world
I have met Barb and Allison
I’ll be honest and admit that most of my focus has been on working towards goal number 1. I haven’t achieved it yet, but definitely feel more comfortable about my finances and where things are going.
Goal number 2 has had to be reviewed slightly, as mentioned in our post about changes at the SWBN. We already have many more than 200 women who subscribe to our newsletter and like to keep updated with the things we do, however we have chosen for the moment not to launch a full membership program. There are many exciting plans in the works for the SWBN, but that goal has been amended.
The final 3 goals have not seen much action. Meeting Barb and Allison in person is definitely still a goal for 2009 but we are waiting for the right event/opportunity to bring us together from our various corners of the world.
I’m still working on creating a more nomadic lifestyle and that will be linked (at least in part) to the future of the SWBN.
Finally, the health, fitness, and weightloss goal has not made much headway. At first it was going well – we were blogging about it every week and keeping you updated. But, many of you (rightly) suggested that a business blog was not the place for doing this, so suddenly I lost my accountability.
Too often we get annoyed with ourselves because we don’t have the “willpower” to stick to something, but you shouldn’t be ashamed of seeking outside help and finding someone to help you towards your goals.
My help has come from Trisha Stewart, a health professional based near me in Devon and writer of the Healthy Tart series of books. She is going to be working with me on achieving better overall health and fitness. I also hope to get her onto a future SWBN podcast to discuss the importance of health and fitness for business people (let’s be honest, we almost always put ourselves last behind work, family etc).
We haven’t forgotten our commitment to donate funds to KIVA for every pound lost. I have managed to maintain the 8lbs I lost earlier in the year and will be setting up an SWBN KIVA account to donate my $8…plus a bit more (why should they lose out because I didn’t lose?).
And the commitment remains. For every lb lost this year I will donate a $ to KIVA.
So, the question remains, how are you getting on with your goals? Anything we can do to help you achieve them?

It can be really difficult to hold to a weight loss goal if you don’t have accountability. I used my online journal at one of the weight loss sites – it helped a lot.
And congrats on your membership! ‘Way to go.

A good post Lisa. You are so right about checking in with yourself about your goals. I keep mine posted at my desk so as to keep them front & center. Goals have a way of shifting and changing, sometimes taking on a life of their own.
I feel good about the paths I’m on to achieve my goals. I think (know) the time line is longer than I first anticipated. But that is okay because I am sticking to doing the things I need to accomplish my goals.
Honestly, I don’t know if I’d be nearly as successful in focusing and working towards them if it weren’t for the support I’ve found and friendships I’ve made through things like the SWBN. Networking, joining master mind groups, Skype chats, etc all help me to keep at it.
So, a big thank you to you all!
