Photo Friday #4: Favourite Shoes
This week’s Photo Friday is Favourite Shoes. These are ours – please share your own in the comments below.
Lisa’s Loafers
Anyone who knows me well will be surprised by my favourite shoes photo, as I am rarely seen in anything other than trainers (sneakers) or flip flops. So, here they are….no Nikes or Havanas in sight:
Now the sad admission… I have never EVER worn these shoes (except in my house to see what they look like).
I have always loved shoes, from the age of about 9 when my mum would send me to school in my sensible Clark’s shoes that looked like Cornish pasties and were good for my growing feet. I would change out of them as soon as I was out of sight for a patent maroon pair of kitten heeled shoes my friend gave me.
When I was younger and prepared to suffer pain for beauty, I had tons of beautiful shoes. I still own far too many pairs but now tend to aim for comfort over beauty. I bought these shoes from Ebay for my friend’s wedding in 2007. I had a pewter dress and these were described as pewter, but unfortunately they were not the same shade. I still haven’t found an appropriate occasion to wear them (one where I don’t need to walk too far) so I just take them out of the box occasionally and look at them lovingly.
They are truly a thing of beauty.
Wow! Glad I got that confession off my chest. Are you starting to feel you know me yet?
Barb’s Booties
Ok, so they’re not exactly booties, but Lisa made such a great stab at alliteration I just had to go with it
These shoes are soooo comfy that I would wear them 24/7 if I could! They’re like the perfect hybrid of slipper and sneaker, with the convenience of slipons. I wish I’d bought four pairs instead of just two. And that is quite the statement from a gal who NEVER buys shoes. Shout out to Champion for making my feet happy.
Allison’s Espadrilles
Back in the day, ANY woman that wore sensible shoes was considered by the young girls either a “lesbian” or an “old lady”. I must have been a lesbian when I bought these, because I was not aged enough to be an old lady *wink*.
As you know I have Multiple Sclerosis, and sometimes I am not steady on my feet. Heels are scary enough, without having a good sense of balance or know where the boundaries of your body extremities are. When I started work at the Sydney Casino I found that I was walking in excess of 10klms (6 miles) a day, from one end of the complex to the other and back (1.5 klms from end-to-end). I needed something I could wear that would be sensible, not scary, and last longer than crappy cheap shoes.
Back in those days my fashion preference was (very) short pleated tartan skirts, white shirts and a black suit jacket (kind of Japanese school-girl before it became really popular) and so it seemed natural to buy a pair of Dr Martens. I have always loved, and will always love, Mary Jane’s and so when I saw these at Raben Shoes in Sydney it was a “had to have moment”.
I still wear these almost DAILY to work (but with sensible power suits now because I am OLD) over 12 years later. I don’t really care what they look like because they are comfortable and make my own little statement “I am an old lady rebel”

Chat Catcher
I wear my fuzzy bunny slippers 24/7. I’ve even been known to wear them at the grocery store.. My feet are very happy.

Barb, where did you get them, I have to get a pair.
Lisa, the reference to cornish pasties and clarks show you come from the UK. I buy clarks for my oys, but they do trainers that light up which my boys think are great. They are 3 and 4
