I think the title says it all, really. This week we feature photos of our
Dream Travel Destinations.
Lisa Loves Life Down Under
I have travelled to many places and have many more places I want to visit, but if I HAVE to choose just one place as a dream destination it would be Australia. I could spend the rest of my life exploring Australia and never be bored.
I have visited Australia twice now – once for 10 days on my way back from the Solomon Islands (another wonderful travel destination) and once for 9 months on a working holiday visa.
Australia has so many different climates and landscapes, as well as a rich history and some of the most beautiful sunsets imaginable (tried not to miss a single one) that 9 months still wasn’t enough (and I probably saw more of Australia in that time than most Australians see in a lifetime).
I could have just ripped a beautiful picture of Australia from somewhere online but instead here are a few of the snapshots of my trip there. Apologies that they are all of me and not of the beautiful landcapes, but they were scanned from physical photos (didn’t have digital cameras 10 years ago) to email to a friend. I have loads of landscape pics too but not scanned in yet.

In Ramsey Street. We were just a little embarrassed as none of us had watched Neighbours for years, but my mum appreciated it

Sailing in the Whitsundays...look at that tan! I am so pale these days (another reason I need to go back)

To see the best sights Australia has to offer you have to be pretty active. This was me reaching the top of King's Canyon - I look exhausted!

More sailing - this time on a Catamaran and this photo was taken after scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef
I’m a pretty smiley person anyway, but I remember smiling A LOT during the 9 months I was in Australia. There has to be something special about a place that brings so much joy. Definitely at the top of my list of places to re-visit and explore further, especially now I have a business partner who lives there.
Barb’s Bora Bora
Bora Bora. Overwater Bungalow. Enough said
Allison’s Agony
Who thought up this one?? *glares at Lisa*
How can I choose just one place? I know, I’ll cheat.
Place I want to go back to one day
Ningaloo Reef Western Australia – Forget your Great Barrier Reef*, the thing is so big and flashy and miles from the coast, Ninglaoo reef is THE reef to visit when in Australia. This temperate water reef is within walking distance of the beach.
I was there in winter and while it was still nice and warm, it wasn’t whale shark season, so we didn’t get to snorkel with them. One day I will go back to do that.
Here’s a video of someone doing just that
* disclaimer I have never been to the Great Barrier Reef and so can’t really make an informed comparison. Also Ningaloo reef is so special for so many reasons that if millions of tourists go there it will be totally ruined…so let’s keep it our little secret.
Where I want to go next
Taking the Trans Siberian Railway I would like to see Lake Baikal. Largest, deepest and oldest freshwater lake in the world. It has more fresh water than all of the USA’s great lakes put together, that’s how deep this thing is.
Why? I think the getting there will be the fun bit, the destination is the cherry on the cake. I don’t do the tour thing and prefer to make it up as I go along, the thought of just buying tickets to the next place and seeing the real Soviet Union country side (not just what I see in Stalker) is just so very exciting.
Where I will go to one day
When ever I get asked “where do you want to go to before you die” I always say, I want to go into space and look back at the earth. One day I will (even if it means getting my ashes sent up there )

But chocolate, Lisa – what about chocolate?? Just think – it’ll all *melt*!!
Lovely photos, & thanks all of you for sharing your dream destinations.
For me it’s more the ingredients of the place I go for – give me running water, deciduous woods, hills, a beautiful warm sandy beach not far away, a good 2nd-hand paperback store, and limitless rum & raisin ice-cream, & I’m a pretty happy bunny.
