SWBN Podcast #005: Social Bookmarking Tools and Collaboration

24 January 2009 by Lisa 1,265 views 11 Comments

We’ve been holding out on publishing another podcast because we wanted our first “proper” interview to be with the person we credit with bringing us together. But it’s been hard getting the opportunity to get together (virtually) to chat so you will have to wait for that one (fingers crossed it will be next week).

So, that person (keeping you guessing, although many of you will already know who I’m talking about) has been pre-empted by a young Australian, Nathan Ridley. Nathan is a talented coder who created Traffic Android, a piece of software that automates social bookmarking, and who recently moved to the UK to work as part of the Manchester Mob.

We had the opportunity to beta test Traffic Android, firstly when it was desktop application and then later when it developed into a web based application that not only submits to social bookmarking sites but also to social media sites and rss aggregators.

In this interview, Nathan talks about the value of social bookmarking, the Manchester Mob and the benefits of collaborative projects.

First off let me admit that I’m the head of the Nathan Ridley Fan Club and an rabid avid user of Traffic Android..

With that being said, I still think this was a truly amazing interview. Nathan was so candid and real. You can’t help but root for him.

Great interview Lisa… And best wishes for all success Nathan

I agree Karen. Nathan was very open and natural. He was a joy to interview (and yet another one who told me he hadn’t done an interview before – perhaps that’s the answer ;-) )

    Hi ladies,
    Great interview with Nathan!
Nice to hear real people talking rather than some stuff ups just boasting about themselves (like many interviews on line).

I am a bit confused though – He doesn’t dream about you all? I am sure he just did not want to tell the whole world. One day he will understand that it is OK to dream about ‘geek girls’. ;)

I keep seeing more and more people talking about Traffic Android – it is going to be a big hit!

Great interview guys. Nathan’s a nice Brisbane lad. I still can’t believe the Manchester Mob stole him from us!

I could swear that the last voiceover was Stephen Fry.

Nice guess, Nez! Allison does happen to have an ever-so-sweet crush on the lovely Mr Fry. Alas, the identity of our male voiceover will remain one of the many closely guarded little secrets of the SWBN ;-)

Fantastic interview. I mirror Sheryl Loch’s sentiments. It’s nice to hear someone who’s down to earth and not boasting about all their achievements.

As for the Manchester weather, I’ve lived with it for 8 years now and you still don’t get used to it :)

Thanks Lisa, thanks Nathan and good luck.

    Cheers

I am not a woman, but I do like women however. I hope that that qualifies me to post a comment here 8-). I want to thank Lisa for the great interview and offering this material. I appreciate Nathan’s comments on “picking himself up and dusting himself off” after setbacks. I have been challenged in internet marketing to get a successful niche moving. It has been challenging and frustrating sometimes. I think writing down goals is something that is not a foreign concept to me but it has not been sufficient to get results. I believe in what I am doing in internet marketing and have Ed Dale and his 30 Day Challenge team to thank for so much learning. I have come so far and know this is the way forward for me.

Thanks again SWBN. My best to you all
