Weigh-in Wednesday (01)

7 January 2009 by Allison 1,254 views 20 Comments

Both Lisa and I have made a 2009 goal to lose some excess weight and get more exercise.

Question – What good is a goal when no-one can see what is happening, nor those with the goal not being able to show off their efforts?

Answer - A weekly blog post that will journal our efforts for the week as well as the results for all to see.

We are also asking that our readers join in to help keep us motivated by offering up sponsorship for each pound lost. The more we lose (and we have a bit to lose) the more the entrepreneurs of Kiva will benefit from your sponsorship which is so right for so many reasons!.

Sooo… here is how it will all go down. Each weekly report will contain for Lisa and I

  1. Pounds lost
  2. Inches lost from bust, waist, hips + thighs
  3. Daily exercise journal
  4. Daily food journal

This week is the baseline week, so there are no losses yet.

Completion date?  Healthy weight loss (weight that will stay off) is accomplished by steady reduction in weight over a long period of time. It’s well known now that “crash diets” are unhealthy and are not conducive to long-term weight loss. So we are setting a (initial) date 6 months from now of July 1st, 2009 for the sponsorship “payout” date. This does not mean that we will not be continuing after that date, but Kiva should reap the rewards of our effort as soon as we have hit the half way mark through the year.

Lisa and I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments section. We are both highly competitive people and will not mind your speculation (and even bets!) on who will be “winning” at the 6 months mark. Feel free to include your pledge on how much you will give per pound lost so we can also keep a tally in the weekly report.

Cheer us on and/or join in too! Keep up with the latest results every Weigh-In Wednesday.

I love a challenge and you will probably witness some friendly banter over this between me and Allison (feel free to join in and take sides – as long as you take mine – LOL).

But I want to reiterate that Allison and I are serious about this being a healthy weightloss. We are more interested in losing weight that will stay off and focusing on becoming fit and healthy than on beating each other – although victory will be sweet ;-)

I’ll be the first to pledge $1 to Kiva for every pound lost (that’s combined weightloss).

Now better go and measure myself so I have my benchmarks.

Grr why didn’t I think of posting a comment first!

OK I will match Lisa’s $1 a pound for combined weight-loss AND challenge her to a small wager of $20. Loser pays Kiva on TOP of each pound.

Care to take me up on that Lisa?

Must run, time for a big bacon breakfast yum!

I don’t envy either of you on this one, I know what it is like living with someone who is constantly on a diet, I see how much hard work it is making the right choices and not sneaking that chocolate bar when no-one is looking.

I’ll pledge a $ per pound so come on Lisa, make the UK proud!

Thanks Wayne – great to have your support.

My aim is not to deprive myself of anything but remember the M word – MODERATION! Also, I know that exercise is my friend, and I need to get back into some sort of exercise routine.

This is getting exciting – we could make quite a bit for Kiva.

Do each of you have a weight loss goal? Are you both aiming to lose about the same amount?

Just wondering what we’re “looking” at here.

I have no doubt that you will both be successful in this endeavor ;-)

    Hi Corinne

Our goals are in our 2009 Goals post but a recap.

These are for completion by the end of 2009

    Lisa – losing 70lbs
    Allison – 20 kilograms (44lbs)

The 6 month point will be probably about 1/2 to 2/3rd towards that number :)

Thanks Corinne. Yes, Kiva is a great “charity” so I’d better work hard at this to get them as much money as possible.

My 6 month goal will be around the 35lb mark but will aim higher.

You go girls! Competition is healthy.

I was sitting at the crunch machine at my gym this morning, watching the TV – crazy place to put the tele, no-one ever gets off the comfy crunch machine seat and no-one gets many crunches done either.

A retired Aussie swimmer who’d run to fat was talking about how he was going to lose his flab and he said to achieve your goals you have to “expect success”.

I find that’s something that men do better than women, we tend to get doubtful very quickly and don’t give things time to work. Your 6 months bet sounds very do-able.

You are going to just love it when you’ve lost that weight!

Way to go guys – it’s a HUGE commitment to make publicly!

Maybe as part of “Weigh-in Wednesday” you can also tackle some “weighty issues” around business/marketing etc.. :)

P.S. – groaned at your comment, Rosie. Groaned, and laughed.
