My 2009 Goals (Lisa)
It’s my turn to state my goals for 2009. I loved Allison’s process of writing it as if it has already happened so here they are.
In 2009:
- I have become and live debt-free
- SWBN has 200 active members
- I have taken control of my health and fitness, including losing 70lbs
- I have created a lifestyle which enables me to be more nomadic and travel around the world
- I have met Barb and Allison
Writing down goals is vital to achieving them and is the first step in the process. Many people do not write their goals down – it’s a fear thing. They think that if they don’t write them down and fail to achieve them, then they can kid themselves they haven’t failed. The great thing about goals is that they can be adjusted as you go along. My goals for 2008 were very different to the reality, but I adapted and ended the year with a new set of goals.
So, first of all, write your goals down. You give them so much more power by doing so.
The next thing to remember is that the goals themselves are not the end of the process. These are what you plan to achieve and where you aim to be within the next 12 months. You now need to break those goals down into an action plan.
For example, in order to become and live debt-free, and to create a more nomadic lifestyle (the 2 are very much interlinked) I will become more focussed and streamlined within my business; discard all the deadweight from my business that is sucking up time and not making me money; set up processes that enable me to be more organised both online and offline; give SWBN and my main business my primary focus; look at ways to incorporate travel into my work (such as, taking speaking engagements and coaching opportunities).
That action plan can be broken down into even more manageable weekly and monthly tasks to make it more achievable.
Setting personal and business goals each year is not the same as making New Year’s resolutions. At initial glance they may seem the same but NY resolutions fail for a variety of reasons.
- They are not specific, measurable and realistic.
- They do not have a specific timeframe (which is why most are broken within the 1st week)
- They are usually about what you will NOT do, rather than what you WILL do (that is very important from a mental point of view)
- You expect to achieve it all in one fell swoop instead of in manageable bite-size chunks
- You are not accountable
Now it’s your turn to set GOALS and create an action plan for your year…

Good post! I plan on watching/learning from you and your fellow SWBN sisters as you achieve these goals and lead many through the online maze.

Well, I have just joined your network,so that’s one more member towards 200.
My first goal for 2009 is to learn to use friendfeed and twitter as well as I can for my online business ideas and I’m taking the plunge now by writing here and reading your excellent info for a start. It is a bit scary, to be honest.
Lisa, be determined with your health and fitness goals. Your body and mind will reward you like crazy. A couple of years ago, I undertook to lose my excess weight and with determination and focus I did it and have lived free of excess fat for a long time now. I feel great, I look good. I am about to hit the beach at Byron Bay later this morning – at 46 years of age – in a (gasp) brief bikini! I am confident I will not be pushed back into the surf by well meaning whale savers as may well have happened a few short years ago. (Bikini may come loose in pounding Aussie surf, however – mental note to self: must tighten straps before entering water).
I really encourage you to go for it. Since getting healthy, my brain works better and more positively and I have found the time to get into this fascinating internet stuff.
All the very best for the new year and beyond.

Great post! I really liked the way you too used the past tense to give relationship for your goals. Kept them simple, specific and attainable.
Also I liked the way that you explained how goals are NOT like New Years Resolutions.
Goals are important in our lives.
Goals are what motivate us to reach out for the things that we desire in life.
Goals put the go in als of our lives. (lame I know) LOL
By the way can you tell Barb hi for me when you meet her…thanks.
I posted a link on my last blog post to your goal post. I hope that it gets a touchdown. LOL

PS Rosie I don’t have the parts to be a member or to fill out a bikini. I do however enjoy the internet marketing thingy as well and these gals ROCK!

Gary there is such a thing as a mankini, but it’s a pretty frightening look for any bloke. Google it if you dare!
